Participants must bring the following materials to the workshops:
Note:
Item Analysis Reports are available from your district’s data department, the
Texas Education Agency, or your TAKS vendor. These reports are not
automatically sent to the district with the annual TAKS results. If your
district data department does not have these reports, you may need to place a
special order in order to receive them.
These reports show how students performed on the TAKS test by question number
and identify the percentage of students who chose each answer. Use the following
link to view the statewide reports. The reports you need for the workshops will
be similar to these but will contain district/campus data rather than the
statewide data. Bring the data for the district if you work in the
district office; bring campus-level results if you work on a campus.

Scope & Sequence Order Form |
Workshop description
Scope & Sequence workshops in science, mathematics, language arts/reading, and
social studies, grades K-12, are held annually in June so participants can study
the materials, review current TAKS data, and customize the sequence charts at
the local campus or district level before the beginning of the new school year.
The Kilgo Scope & Sequence workshops support school districts and campuses in
the development and implementation of dynamic curriculum plans, which include a
specific sequence in which to teach the TEKS/SEs. The workshops include the most
current Kilgo research on the relationship between the state curriculum, the
Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and Student Expectations
(SEs), and the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) with new
models and processes for making “Data-Driven Decisions” and studying and
researching the TEKS/SEs to the depth and complexity of TAKS.
The sessions provide an organized
curriculum framework for teaching and assessing the TEKS/SEs to the depth and
complexity of TAKS at all grade levels, not just the tested grade levels, and
include all the components critical for improving student achievement equitably
for all students, grades K-12.
Components of Model Scope
& Sequence Charts
-
Sequence
for pacing instruction of the TEKS/SEs in the model Scope & Sequence charts
based on current state student achievement data trends and Kilgo research on
relationship between TEKS/SEs and TAKS
-
Coding
of “high stakes” objectives, TEKS/SEs tested on TAKS
-
Coding
alignment of the TAKS-M and SAT in reading and mathematics
-
Vertical
alignment for reading and writing, grades K-12, so skills can be
introduced at earlier grade levels and developed to mastery prior to testing
on TAKS
-
Vertical
alignment for mathematics, K-12, so skills and concepts can be
introduced at earlier grade levels and developed to mastery prior to testing
on TAKS
-
Vertical
alignment for science, grades 1-8, so skills and concepts can be
introduced at earlier grade levels
Model Scope
& Sequence charts are provided in hard copy and on CD in an Excel format
Scope & Sequence Workshop Training Components
1.
Developing a dynamic school district curriculum plan
-
Purposes of Scope & Sequence Curriculum Plans
-
How
to make data-driven decisions based on local campus and district student
achievement data in the development and revision of district and/or
campus scope & sequence charts
2.
Adding aligned resources to the scope & sequence
charts
3.
Implementing Scope & Sequence charts at the district
and campus levels
-
How
to customize the district scope & sequence charts at the campus level
-
How
to remediate through the grade level TEKS/SEs instead of outside of the
grade level TEKS/SEs using the district/campus scope and sequence charts
-
Professional development training materials for effective implementation
of district scope & sequence charts (includes take-home training packet)
Participants
can compare their school district or campus scope and sequence charts with the
model charts provided in the workshops and revise their existing district/campus
charts by using the strategies and processes presented in the workshops.
Four sets of
materials are available for each subject area, as described in the chart below.
When registering, select the set of materials you wish to receive at the
workshop.
