Workshop description
Margaret Kilgo will involve participants in a
research-based process of writing assessment questions and developing district,
campus, and/or classroom pre-assessment, check-point, and benchmark assessments
100% aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and Student
Expectations (SE) to the depth and complexity of the Texas Assessment of
Knowledge and Skills (TAKS).
The critical components of the assessment workshops include:
-
Unique assessment model and processes for writing assessment
questions. Standard forms are provided in print copy for the workshop and
on a take-home CD for writing questions and creating a library of
aligned questions by Student Expectation.
-
Model for developing pre-assessments, check-points, and
benchmark assessments at the district, campus, and classroom level using
student performance data to determine strengths and weaknesses by Student
Expectation. This model helps educators design assessment instruments that
test weaknesses and TEKS/SEs that have not been previously tested and not
over test strengths
-
Specific training on how to develop a beginning of the school
year pre-assessment instrument that can be utilized at the district, campus,
or classroom level.
All
assessment models and processes and data-driven decisions processes apply to
regular education and special education teachers and students, grades K-12.
The writing of assessment questions and development of assessment instruments
will enhance and improve classroom practices in assessment with teacher-made
tests without multiple choice so that student grades are more accurate
predictors of TAKS and TAKS-M performance.
